SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Augustana football hosted the media Thursday and brand new head coach Jerry Olszewski spent much of the morning answering questions about his style and of course, his quarterbacks.
Right now, the starter is a mystery with junior Justin Heinrich and red-shirt freshman Trey Heid battling it out for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart. At a glance, both are athletic with a slight edge going to Heid in speed. As for the more experienced Heinrich, he may have the advantage coming in as a more traditional pocket passer.
"We will go as far as our offensive line and quarterback play goes because I'm really confident in the other spots. I think that's we're growing the most and that's where we'll make our hay if those kids play to their potential," Olszewski said.
Whoever wins the competition will take over an offense that was third in the Northern Sun last season. Plenty of options return including wide receivers Grant Gebhardt, Darren Niklason and team captain Noah Huisman.
"If you take away one thing, we got three other things we can hit you with. There's a lot of options and there's a lot of field that the defense is going to have to cover and I love every thing about it," Huisman said.
Augie also brings back a talented duo of running backs in Dajon Newell and C.J. Ham.
