PIERRE, SD -

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. Corporal Zane Mathis was punched repeatedly in the head by Inmate Carlos Green. Mathis was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital for treatment after he suffered a fractured jaw and facial lacerations.

Green, 28, was handcuffed and locked up in the disciplinary section of the prison. The Jameson Annex was locked down for precautionary reasons the remainder of the evening. It was lifted on Sunday, April 21 and the prison is fully operational.
