Asmussen Sentenced For Stalking Missing Woman

Asmussen Sentenced For Stalking Missing Woman

A chapter in a bizarre missing person's case may be over tonight, but Pamela Dunn's family is confident the story is not over. She's been missing from her Watertown apartment since December 9th of 2001. Today her former boyfriend David Asmussen was sentenced to 40 months in prison for stalking Dunn and breaking a protection order. He may be the only clue authorities have in finding a woman missed by her family.

In the almost three years since Pamela Dunn was reported missing, police have had few leads on her where-a-bouts. But they arrested her former boyfriend, David Asmussen, after finding a series of threatening messages on her cell phone. That led them to uncover an abusive relationship which has only raised more questions about her disappearance.

Pamela Dunn's family knows where David Asmussen will be for the next three years. Having him behind bars is comforting for them, but they also fear the protection order violation that put him there, may have also killed a devoted mother.

Stacey Benson, Dunn's daugher, said, "She was frightened of him, she tried everything she could do to get away from him, he'd be traveling on the road and he'd know every move she made."

Marv Dunn, Dunn's father, said, "Tickles me all over more than anything else just to see him taken out of there in hand cuffs and I hope he stays there for a long time."

Vince Foley, Codington County States Attorney, said, "Well we asked for more than what the judge gave him but we're satisfied with what the judge did sentence Mr. Asmussen. He's off the street, he's not going to be able to harass or stalk any other woman, and that's important."

After he was found guilty of charges on August 23rd in Huron, Asmussen was ordered to take a mental evaluation in Yankton. Now that sentencing is over, Dunn's family hopes the investigation isn't.

Foley said, "We've been investigating the disappearance of Pam Dunn since December 9th and it continues day in and day out."

After hearing all the evidence in the case, Dunn's family believes Asmusson holds the answer to a mystery still unsolved.

Dunn said, "Maybe we'll someday find out what he did with Pam."

Asmussen is currently being held at the Codington County jail until he is transferred to the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls. If you have any other information on the Dunn investigation, you are asked to call Watertown police.
