October weather usually gives us a clue to what we can expect for the coming winter as the upper air pattern tends to repeat itself for the winter months.
Last week's blizzard came in from the south and was a slow moving storm, allowing the snow to last for a couple of days.
The next storm will arrive later this week. It will also come in from the south, but will move along a lot faster, leaving dry skies for the weekend.
On the heels of that system, yet another one will move in from the south. It will meet up with cold air from the north to bring another round of snow to western South Dakota.
With last week's blizzard in western South Dakota and two more storm systems on the way in the seven day forecast, it looks like it could shape up to be a busy winter. We shall see.
