South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says Donald Moeller's execution followed the law. He spoke Tuesday night following the lethal injection.
Toward the end of this case, Jackley argued in front of the state and federal courts to make sure it was carried out.
"I would like to recognize the men and women the South Dakota Penitentiary for carrying out the state sentence and the jury verdict in a constitutionally sound and humane manner. Tina, across South Dakota, we recognize your significant loss," Jackley said.
In the weeks leading up to the execution, a woman claiming to be Moeller's step-sister filed a motion to halt Moeller's sentence. Jackley did not expect the motion to work.
