Adams Thermal Systems Cited For 51 Violations

A Canton business is being cited by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 51 safety and health violations.

Inspectors found the violations at Adams Thermal Systems in February after officials received a complaint with multiple concerns with the coolant core manufacturing facility.

OSHA found a total of 44 serious safety violations that include failing to provide proper housekeeping, marking emergency exits and keeping pathways free and unobstructed.  In addition, the investigation found violations for failing to provide fall protection on open-sided platforms, machine guard pulleys, belts, and saws.

Adams Thermal Systems had been inspected by OSHA five times since 2004.  That includes a death investigation opened in November 2011.  In that case, citations were issued for lockout of machine energy sources and machine guarding violations; Adams Thermal is contesting that case.

Proposed penalties for the most recent violations total $225,000.

Due to the previous fatality and nature of the current hazards, OSHA has placed Adams Thermal Systems in its Severe Violator Enforcement Program.  Adams Thermal Systems has 15 business days after receiving the citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA's area director or contest the findings.

The current citations can be viewed on OSHA's website.
