A tragic high-speed chase in Mitchell, South Dakota ended the life of a young child this afternoon.
It happened just before 3 p.m. when an officer noticed a vehicle speeding near 10th and Main street.
The driver refused to pull over and picked up speed, traveling 14 blocks in just one minute.
It came to a stop when the vehicle crashed into an SUV at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Duff Street.
A nine year old passenger inside the SUV didn't survive the crash.
The driver tried to flee the scene, but was arrested shortly after.
Authorities believe alcohol played a factor.
