A Place To Sleep For The Holidays

December 18, 2012, 5:03 PM by Sammi Bjelland

A Place To Sleep For The Holidays
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

When you don't have a comfortable bed, a peaceful night of rest is only a dream.  Thanks to the "Making Homes for the Holidays" program, 25 mattress and box spring sets with frames are headed to the Furniture Mission of Sioux Falls to distribute to families in need.

"Everybody deserves the dignity of having a bed to sleep on. And we are just grateful to Slumberland and what they do for us, every year and throughout the year," Furniture Mission Executive Director, Stephanie Heiden said.

"This year alone, Slumberland raised $20,000 specifically from employee donations," Sioux Falls Slumberland Manager Craig Novacek said.

And every dollar donated to Slumberland's non-profit organization, the 40 Winks Foundation, helps purchase beds for those in need.

"It's a feel good feeling. I think most off, it feels good to be able to give needy folks and those in need beds to sleep on. Many of the beds we give away go to people who have never had a bed. So it's just a real good feeling," Sioux Falls Slumberland Operations Manager Brent Carmody said.

Over the last 19 years, the "Making Homes for the Holidays" program has donated more than 20,000 bed sets to families across the Midwest.  And many recipients have shared their gratitude through letters.

"Dear Slumberland, you have no idea how much I will enjoy sleeping on your bed. I haven't had a bed in several years. I look forward to dreaming for a better future," Novacek said.

It's a valuable gift with a priceless response.

"To be able to give them maybe as an early Christmas present to a child or to an elderly person that is sleeping on the floor, it's just wonderful," Heiden said.

You don't have to wait until next Christmas to make a donation to this cause.

The Furniture Mission accepts any furniture donations all year and will pick up your gently used items free of charge.
