There will be a lot of issues on the ballot next week in the Sioux Falls city election. If you are a Sioux Falls voter, you will have the opportunity to choose who you want to sit in public office.
One of the biggest races is for the next mayor. Incumbent mayor Mike Huether is going against city council member Greg Jamison.
Another election is for At-Large Council Member "A". The candidates for this seat are Emmett Reistroffer, Rex Rolfing and Manny Steele. The next is At-Large Council Member "B". Christine Erickson is going up against Denny Pierson.
Voters will choose the Central District Council Member between Rebecca Dunn and Michelle Erpenbach. And the last public office election is the Southeast District Council Member. Rick Kiley is going against Bonita Schwan.
Voters will also get to decide on some amendments to the Sioux Falls City Charter, like the city council term start date.
The current language requires the term to begin on Monday of that third week of May - but voters can choose if there should be scheduling flexibility for the city council to begin on whichever day the city council meets during the third week of May.
Next - voters can choose the mayor’s term start date. The proposed change would allow scheduling flexibility for the mayor's term of office to begin on whichever day the city council regularly meets during the third week of May.
And third – you will be able to vote on the council approval of city attorney appointment or dismissal.
Voters will also take on Initiated Measures. Voter will vote for or against the use of snow gates. And also if an outdoor pool at Spellerberg Park should be built.
Other things seen on the ballot includes the Shape Places Ordinance. Voters will decide if the ordinance should take effect. And you can also decide on the Walmart Zoning Ordinance Voters will decide if a Walmart and other businesses should be built at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.
