A Healthy Dose Of Rain

June 2, 2014, 5:42 PM by Scot Mundt

A Healthy Dose Of Rain

The sun was shining on Monday, but when clouds over took the sky this weekend, heavy rain fell with some in KELOLAND picking up well over an inch or two.

The highest rain amounts in the week are found in eastern KELOLAND with widespread one to three inches.  Sioux Falls and Flandreau both made it over three and a half inches.  Areas of eastern and northeast KELOLAND received amounts of over two inches; some of the two inch rains even made it into central South Dakota with Pierre picking up just over two.  Western South Dakota received about a half to two inches as well with three-quarters in Rapid City and almost an inch and a half in Lead.

Of course, you may have received a lot more or a lot less.  A viewer emailed us an amount of 6.6 inches in Brookings with a farmer receiving 7.1 just south of Brookings.

All of this rain will have an impact on the drought monitor.  That gets assessed on Tuesday but doesn't officially come out until Thursday.  Speaking of Tuesday, more rain is on the way, with the best chance for southern KELOLAND.
