It might have seemed almost like Christmas for hundreds of children in Sioux Falls today.
For the 24th year Goodwill Of The Great Plains gives new shoes, socks, hats and mittens to children in need of these basic items. The shoe and mitten party expects to help over 1,000 children ages five through 11 stay warm over the winter months.
“It can be very difficult for families who are trying to make ends meet and working multiple jobs or not working at all to provide shoes and those things their children really need. Some kids come through here and they don't have a new pair of shoes at all,” Goodwill Chief Administrative Officer Charlotte Nelson said.
Children also took home a book and some candy or fruit. Goodwill in Rapid City gave away over 400 shoes to children in need at a similar event last weekend.
