Family, friends and community members helped welcome home 124 soldiers from the 235th Military Police Company on Monday.
The Rapid City and Sioux Falls-based 235th deployed in February with a mission to provide security for U.S. military personnel, installation and facilities and to guard prisoners of war and civilian prisoners. The unit also trained locals in detainee operations, security, personnel and vehicle searches and entry control point operations.
South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard, Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker and Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch spoke at the ceremony Monday.
This was the third deployment for the 235th. The unit previously deployed to Fort Carson, Colorado, in 2003 and to Afghanistan in 2006.
