The 2014 Summit League Basketball Championships had quite the impact on the Sioux Falls economy. According to a new report compiled by the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, the Championships contributed an estimated $8.52 million in total business sales.
The total calculation represents $4.55 million dollars in direct business sales and $3.97 million in indirect business sales. The figures encompass local taxes, lodging, transportation, food, entertainment, shopping, organizer spending, and media coverage.
The 2014 Summit League Championships drew 37,304 fans for the women’s and men’s sessions combined. The 2014 Championships ranked as the third highest attended conference tournament in League history. In 2015, the Denny Sanford Premier Center will serve as host, as the tournament moves from the Sioux Falls Arena.
