Summit League basketball fans filled the seats this weekend at the Sioux Falls Arena to cheer on their favorite teams. But next year, the University of South Dakota will be competing in the touranment, and that's one of the main reasons why tickets are already on sale for the 2013 session.
"The fact that it's the first time they're in the tournament and they have to be in the tournament because there will only be eight teams eligible and they'll all make the tournament so we wanted to give everybody the opportunity and thought that was the best way to do it," Sioux Falls Sports Authority Director Mike Sullivan said.
Tickets generally go on sale in August, but those buying their tickets a full year in advance this weekend say it's a great idea to have them on sale earlier.
"I think it is, because yesterday was a sellout with only SDSU from the local teams playing on Saturday, so what'll happen when we have a SDSU, USD, SDSU all three on the same day hanging from the rafters," Tom Gannon from Sioux Falls said.
"Well I think that's a good idea, yes, for the hard liners that go all the time it will give them a chance to get decent seating," Joe Mendel from Brookings said.
And tickets have already been going fast in fact this weekend more than one-thousand tickets have been sold for next year's Summit League tournament.
"About 1100 so I mean that's a tremendous amount of tickets, we're very pleased we're glad we did it that way," Sullivan said.
So while these fans are still enjoying the rest of the 2012 tournament, they're already looking forward to next year.
"The tournament's a great tournament, so I think it's a good idea,"Mendel said.
Sullivan says that tickets will be on sale all the way up until next year's tournament, or until they sell out.
