The value of building permits issued in Rapid City last year was the second-highest in city history.
The total value of permits in 2013 was $244.3 million, just short of the 2011 record of $259 million.
Community Planning Director Brett Limbaugh says that the construction of a few major business ventures and several residential complexes was the main reasons for last year's high permit value. He also says Rapid City's economy continues to rebound from the nationwide recession.
Officials in Sioux Falls last week announced that the value of 2013 building permits in that city set a record, at $588.2 million.
