HURON, SD -
As people enjoy all the food at the South Dakota State Fair, some organizations are asking them to think of those who struggle to afford food at home.
The State Fair is partnering with Feeding South Dakota and AARP to collect food items and raise awareness to hunger needs in the state.
The groups are also telling people how they can get involved, whether it be through time, money or food donations.
If you bring a non-perishable food item to the fair to donate between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday morning, you'll get $2 off your ticket to enter.
“We're hoping to collect a good amount of food for Feeding South Dakota to go out there and help people in need. Last year I think we collected 1,200 pounds of food so hopefully this year we can beat that,” Candi Hettinger with the South Dakota State Fair said.
The offer is only good from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday.
