RAPID CITY, SD -

An historic park overlooking Rapid City that features concrete and steel statues of dinosaurs might be in line for a $1 million upgrade.

The Rapid City Council is seeking a federal grant of $500,000 to match with an equal amount of city money to overhaul Dinosaur Park.

The park was dedicated in 1936 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The plan to upgrade the free park includes better pathways, an entrance shaped like a dinosaur bone, a viewing tower of downtown and a remodeled gift shop.

The grant is being sought from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is administered by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department.
