A fiery crash near Falls Park this morning caused many homes and businesses to lose power. Police say a 15 year-old boy was speeding and crashed into poles along Weber Avenue.
Police say officers found the vehicle rolled over and on fire. They were able to pull the 15-year-old out of the car, and brought him to a hospital. The boy had just minor injuries.
Crews are out fixing the broken power poles this afternoon. People in the neighborhood say they were without electricity for up to four hours. Brian Gibbens knew something happened when his lights starting flickering and his mom's oxygen tanks shut off for a short period of time.
“I was kind of wondering what was going on. I was like 'Man I hope nobody is hurt real bad' or maybe it happened close to our home or whatever so I went out to look and see and yeah it had to be scary, even for the person that was in it, that was involved with it,” Gibbens said.
The 15-year-old was charged with a DWI, reckless driving, driving without a license, and not wearing a seatbelt.
Gibbens says that drivers are consistently driving above the speed limit on Weber Avenue.
