The Senate has confirmed Brendan Johnson as South Dakota's next U.S. attorney.

The 34-year-old Johnson is the son of South Dakota Democratic Senator Tim Johnson. He will succeed Marty Jackley.

President Barack Obama in July nominated Brendan Johnson to be South Dakota's top federal prosecutor. Johnson received support from members of both parties, including Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, D-S.D., and former Republican Governor Bill Janklow, a former congressman.

Johnson is a Vermillion native and University of South Dakota graduate. He is a partner in a Sioux Falls law firm and a former Minnehaha County prosecutor.
