We have a winner!  Al Franken.  Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman has conceded to Franken in the long standing U.S. Senate race after the Minnesota Supreme Court declared Franken the winner Tuesday afternoon.

It's no joke.  Longtime comedian and Saturday Night Live star Al Franken will represent the state of Minnesota in Washington, D.C.

In a brief statement after the high court ruling, Republican Norm Coleman said it's time to step aside.

"The Supreme Court of Minnesota has spoken. I respect its decision and I will abide by its results. It's time for Minnesotans to come together under the leaders it has chosen and move forward. And I join all Minnesotans in congratulating our new U.S. Senator Al Franken," Coleman said.

Voters in Hills, Minnesota had this reaction.

"I'm glad to just see it over with.  It's kind of a shame we had to wait this long before we had a senator representing us in Washington.  Seems to me there should be some other way to speed this process along, but I'm just glad it's over with and I hope the right man is there," Keith Elbers said.

Others we spoke with aren't happy.

"I think the wrong guy won, but people voted and that's the way it is," Ray VanderWolde said

"I don't like it.  I don't think he's a very good representative for this state.  I question the methods they used to get to this decision too," Mark DeBoer said.

When Franken is sworn in, he'll give Democrats a large enough majority to kill any Republican filibuster.  That's why some are disappointed Coleman didn't take his challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court.  But the feeling in this small town is pretty much the same.

Don Jorgensen: Are you glad it's over?
VanderWolde:
Oh yeah, it should have been over a long time ago.  Wasted too much money on it."

The earliest Franken would be seated is next week because the Senate is out of session for the July 4 holiday.
