A group representing farmers and ranchers will ask the state Public Utilities Commission on Wednesday to require that TransCanada Keystone Pipeline provide more information about the crude oil pipeline it wants to build in western South Dakota.
Dakota Rural Action is seeking information to prepare for a formal hearing the PUC will hold in November before deciding whether to approve TransCanada's application to build the pipeline.
TransCanada already is building a pipeline through eastern South Dakota. The proposed Keystone XL pipeline is designed to run 313 miles through western South Dakota as part of a project to deliver Alberta tar sands crude oil to Gulf Coast terminals and refineries in Texas.
