The Canvassing Board in Minnesota's U.S. Senate recount is off to a fast start in its second day of awarding hundreds of challenged ballots to the candidates. Democrat Al Franken's campaign is withdrawing numerous challenges as they arise.
The board got off to a halting start Tuesday, but in less than an hour Wednesday dispatched almost 50 ballots. More than a dozen were challenges withdrawn by Franken based largely on decisions made a day earlier by the board.
The board hopes to finish by Friday, but members still have more than 1,000 challenges unless the campaigns pull back a lot more.
The Senate recount is also coming before the state Supreme Court on Wednesday. Republican Norm Coleman is asking the high court to stop counties and the Canvassing Board from including votes from improperly rejected absentee ballots in the recount tally.
