yankton, sd
Yankton is number seven on the list, not eight as first reported.
Yankton is South Dakota's own Mayberry.
Livability.com has named it the 7th best small town in the U.S.
The rest of the towns on the list may not look familiar because the national website only looked at communities with 25,000 people or less. The site selected the best cities based on income, crime rates and quality of life.
Yankton did especially well because of all of the outdoor recreation opportunities on the river.
