Sioux Falls, SD
Businesses in Sioux Falls are staying busy this weekend as the Summit League Tournament and Sioux Falls Home Show draw thousands of people from across the region.
"They are here having a great time. We've had people from Brookings, Vermillion, Madison and all over the place this weekend," Casa Del Rey owner Don Smith said.
Smith says he has his entire staff on board and he had even brought in a few others to help out as people from all around come and dine.
"This is probably the busiest weekend of 2013, I hope I'm proved wrong but so far it is," Smith said.
This weekend brings folks into Sioux Falls from all around the area. Many of them come for the Summit League Tournament for fun, food and a good time and it is leaving local small businesses seeing green.
"We really think that this is just the start here on the north side of town with all the building going on, the new football fields and the Sanford building. Just a lot of activity we haven't had for years," Smith said.
With the new construction and the Summit League tournament, Burke resident Jack Broome says the future is bright for south-east South Dakota.
"It's wonderful for our state. It's wonderful for Sioux Fall, and it's just a great tournament," Broome said.
Many are saying they want to keep the Summit League Tournament in the state for years to come and keep this economic explosion growing.
"Why would you move it when you have all the crowds and the enthusiasm and certainly the facility and the new facility coming? That will make it even better," Broome said.
The Summit League Tournament is set to stay in Sioux Falls until 2017. In 2015, the conference will have the opportunity to re-sign to keep the tournament in Sioux Falls until 2022.
