South Dakota's First Costco Plans To Hire Hundreds

Sioux Falls, SD

In just over a month, Costco will open in South Dakota.

"Construction is going very well. They have had good weather and they are right on schedule," Costco General Manager Bruce Miles said.

While the store may just look like a skeleton now, on October 3 the doors of the state's very first Costco will open. And this is a homecoming of sorts for Miles.

“I'm from South Dakota, so I'm coming home,” Miles said.

The new Costco has been in the works for awhile. The land for the new building was bought back in April from Dunham Company and construction began in May. With the finished product soon to be complete, the company is hiring.

“We plan to employ between 200to 250 people from the local area. Not to mention, the people we hire to help service the facility which will add additional jobs to the area," Miles said.

Miles says if you are looking for a job they will be hiring as soon as possible.

"We look forward to offering positions to people that understand what customer service is, enjoy working with people, have a good work ethic and great attitude," Miles said.

As the walls continue to go up, Miles says he simply cannot wait for these double doors to open up.

"I wish we could open tomorrow," Miles said. "I'm that excited to get the place open and bring Costco to South Dakota, Sioux Falls and the surrounding area."

Costco requires a membership to shop in its stores. You can start buying your memberships online.
