SF Students Get C-SPAN Bus Tour

Sioux Falls, SD

Students at the Career and Technical Education Academy in Sioux Falls got a taste of Washington, D.C., Monday morning. Dozens of kids received a tour of the C-SPAN bus and learned more about the network and what it does.

"The Dakotas Tour" is underway for the C-SPAN bus and it rolled into Sioux Falls to meet up with broadcasting students.

"We're a little bit different. We don't cover breaking news or anything like that but we're covering what's going on in the government and kind of talk about the mission of C-SPAN and how it's important to let the people know what's going on in the government," C-SPAN marketing representative Chellie Zou said.

The stop gave seniors like Sarah Mathison an opportunity to learn about the network's programs and resources.

Matt Holsen: When's the last time you watched C-SPAN?
Mathison: I don't know if I've ever actually watched it, to be honest.

That wasn't the case for Dylan Hall. The aspiring sports announcer has tuned in before. He learned about the tour last week and couldn't wait.

"It was informative. We got to learn a little about what they do and kind of more about how they're funded and how everything works and the bus is really cool," Hall said.

While the tour is meant to introduce students to C-SPAN and its educational benefits, there's also a lot of fun interactive things on board.

"It's totally decked out.  Touch screens, computers, cameras and that type of thing. It's been pretty positive," Zou said.

And for these students, pretty inspiring for many interested in a career in the business.

"I love broadcasting. I like doing the director job," Mathison said.

The bus will be headed to Harrisburg and Freeman next before visiting Pierre and Rapid City.
