Sioux Falls, SD
It's expected to be a busy 2017 for construction at Lake Lorraine in Sioux Falls.
Just this month, two more stores announced they are coming to the area near 26th Street and Marion Road.
Despite ice and snow, building is still hot at Lake Lorraine.
"The schedule we're on demands it," Mike Van Buskirk, the director of operations at Van Buskirk Companies, said.
Van Buskirk recently announced that Hobby Lobby and Ross Dress for Less are coming to the area. Four other junior box stores are also planning to move here. While most of the space is already spoken for, Van Buskirk isn't naming names for a few more weeks.
"All of the rest of these that are coming are brand new to Sioux Falls. There's going to be a lot of excitement generated," Van Buskirk said.
The next step now is to get a number of smaller businesses on board on the southeast side of the lake. Van Buskirk envisions boutiques, a coffee shop and a few restaurants.
"We are already in agreement with a hotel. Another one is looking out here. A few restaurants have said they wanted to follow up as soon as some of these shops get going," Van Buskirk said.
Meanwhile, construction crews are also busy on the south side of the lake, finishing up work on a senior housing complex, a Carsforsale.com building, townhomes and 23,000 square feet of office space.
"They're all really excited about the Sioux Falls market," Van Buskirk said.
A market that's not slowing down even during the cold winter months.
Many of the stores at Lake Lorraine will start opening next fall.
