SD Trainings Target Compliance, May Help Workforce

Trainers operating with a federal grant have come through Brookings and Pierre to educate public and private employers on compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act that was signed in 1990.

One of the sessions led by the Rocky Mountain ADA Center was with the state's Bureau of Human Resources. State officials are pushing businesses to employ more people with disabilities.

An adviser to Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he wants to make South Dakota a model employer for people with disabilities, who can help fill workforce shortages.

The head of the Disabled American Veterans in the state says infrastructure that supports people with disabilities is still lacking, including in Sioux Falls where some curb cut-outs are crumbling and there aren't always sidewalks.
