Sioux Falls, SD
If your children are heading back to school this week, you have a few ways to keep tabs on your student. The Sioux Falls School District has several apps and websites, designed to keep parents informed on what's happening in the classroom.
The Sioux Falls School District is getting more parents involved in their student's day through technology -- including the Sioux Falls School District App and website.
"It just gives parents a greater access to school information. Whether that's lunch menus, whether it's paying for a school lunch, accessing their student's grades. Just a variety of features," said Sioux Falls School District Community Relations Supervisor, DeeAnn Konrad.
The District app can be customized to follow certain schools and can even be adjusted to different languages. You can also download additions to the app, like Edmodo.
Edmodo is a communication tool for students and teachers, but parents are given access codes to also view their student's information.
"They can see discussion topics. They can see assignments that the teacher has posted in there. They can see any assignment comments on an assignment that the student has handed in. They can also see posts, but they're limited to direct posts between the teacher and their child," said Sioux Falls School District Technology Integration Facilitator, Rodney Knock.
Another feature of the District app and website is "Let's Talk". This allows parents to submit questions or comments to the school district directly.
And if you're worried about your kid's lunch account getting paid on time, there's an app for that too. "My School Bucks" app allows parents to pay their child's lunch account whenever they like.
"We know in this day and age parents are busy. And to be able to access that information quickly when they need it, it's so critically important to them. And it's important to us too, because we see ourselves as a partner in their child's education," said Konrad.
The School District also offers "Infinite Campus", which allows parents and students to check grades and schedules online.
All of these features and apps are free and can be accessed through the web, and on smartphone devices.
