Sioux Falls, SD
Every year during the holiday season, the Salvation Army sets out those iconic red kettles to raise money for people in need.
Here in KELOLAND, those kettles raised quite a bit of money this year. The charity received an 11 percent increase in donations over last year. In total, more than $341,000 was raised in the red kettles alone.
"It excites me because it tells me that the community understands the needs of the community. And they're reaching out to help through the Salvation Army and other agencies as well," Major Thomas Riggs with the Sioux Falls Salvation Army said.
The money will be used in a variety of ways to help those in need. This includes food, shelter and clothing assistance.
All of the funds raised will stay in the Sioux Falls community.
