New Plans For Historic Campus

Sioux Falls, SD

Lloyd Companies plans to redevelop the former School for the Deaf campus in Sioux Falls into affordable housing, businesses and retail and call it 10th Street Commons.

The property, on more than seven acres of land along East 10th street, includes four buildings.  Lloyd plans to convert some of the old school buildings into affordable housing.  The buildings were constructed between 1885 and 1945. A current call center could be used as a call center or data center for another company.

A proposed new 13,000 square foot building along East 10th Street would house new retail and restaurants. Lloyd says retailers are showing interest in the proposed site.  Lloyd's plans go before the Sioux Falls City Council for approval at its next meeting on August 19.

The asking price was $4.5 million, but the final sale price has not been made public yet.

Communication Services for the Deaf listed the property after the demand for its telecommunication relay service declined due to new technology.  Most of the Sioux Falls operations have already been moved to Austin, Texas.
