You want a fast food burger or coffee from a coffee shop, but either don’t have the time or desire to go out and get it for yourself? A new Sioux Falls business is hoping to capitalize on that.
Robert Hodgdon and Sarah Dukes are spending a lot of time at fast food restaurants lately. But they're not the ones doing the eating.
"Today, we actually had two orders and that was our 22nd and 23rd order," Hodgdon said.
That's one week since this food delivery business opened. The couple will take orders from about 30 restaurants in town and for a $5 charge for orders under $20, they will deliver it to your door. A 15 percent gratuity is added on to orders over $20. The charge for coffee and smoothie delivery is $2.50.
Delectable Delivery is mostly catering to those who want fast food--people who just don't want to go through the drive-thru themselves.
"I don't want to say our society has become lazy, but it's more of a convenience thing so they don't have to spend as much time out on the road and they can spend more time with family and friends," Hodgdon said.
And so far, customers agree.
"It's genius, especially if they're willing to brave cold days like this or when the streets get icy. It's a lot nicer than having to go out myself," customer Jonathan Konz said.
Hodgdon wasn't counting on the hike in gas prices and admits it's cutting into this new business profits. But he hopes to keep his prices low.
"We actually were talking about discounts as opposed to hiking prices up; but we haven't gotten to that stage yet,' Hodgdon said.
At some point these business partners would like to hire an employee to take the orders. And if the last week is any indication, they're on the road to success.
"I was hoping there was a market for it and I think there is; we found our niche and hopefully it grows from here on out," Hodgdon said.
There is another restaurant delivery service in Sioux Falls called "Food Dudes" that delivers from about 10 different restaurants in town.
