New Farmers Market Opens In Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD

Farmers markets are a common sight during the summer in Sioux Falls, but there's a new business in town that's offering fresh produce and a taste of culture.

With funding coming from a federal grant, this is the opening weekend for the group's very first farmers market in the parking lot of Hy-Vee on Tenth Street in Sioux Falls.

The money raised through this project will go towards refugee families from nine different countries. In addition to raising money for these people, executive director Abdul Sidow says this market will bring a different culture to the city.

“It's something completely new in the City of Sioux Falls, because there are a variety of vegetables that are culturally unique and they have not been known in the City of Sioux Falls until this year,” Sidow said.

Sidow says the market holds over 100 different types of plants, ranging anywhere from cucumbers and potatoes to traditional vegetables from around the world.

The New American Garden Market will be open each Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. until October.
