From HomeGoods to Ross Dress for Less, it's been a busy year for Lake Lorraine, a growing shopping and living center in western Sioux Falls.
Growing is the key word.
Here's a look at some new developments.
This is day three of a Sioux Falls shopping trip for Bev Ulmer. The Tabor woman prefers shopping in store versus online.
"The Yankton area doesn't have a Penneys or Payless anymore," Ulmer said.
While many retailers are closing locations across the country, Ulmer is excited to check out the new stores at Lake Lorraine.
"I haven't been to any of them yet," Ulmer said.
In addition to the stores that are already open, another national retailer plans to open there next year. Crews are also working on several other buildings, including retail, office and a new hotel, Aloft.
"Aloft is a whole new concept in hotels. It will be a place where people can take a break, grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat and a drink at the end of the day. There will be live music there as well," Steve Van Buskirk with Van Buskirk Companies said.
In addition to the Aloft Hotel that's already been announced, another hotel will sit on the north side of the lake.
"That will be right adjacent to the lake. They'll have room spilling right onto the lake and some convention space. It will be a different feel than the Aloft Hotel," Van Buskirk said.
Van Buskirk says they also now have three other pieces of land under contract. One of them will include neighborhood services. Another will be a mixed-use building, including office, retail and residential space.
"We have somebody who is looking at another piece of land on the south end of the lake. They'll be bringing a newer concept to Sioux Falls as well," Van Buskirk said.
New concepts to drive people to Sioux Falls during this online shopping age.
"Mega Christmas shopping," Ulmer said.
Van Buskirk Companies also is looking for two restaurants to build locations right next to the lake.
