Sioux Falls, SD
A big chunk of land near Falls Park could be home to a new upper Falls development. Sioux Steel is planning to rezone more than 10 acres. Locals are excited about the possibilities.
Randy Unger lives right across the street from Sioux Steel in the Phillips Avenue Lofts. He loves everything about his bustling, downtown life -- except for one thing.
"To be real frank with you, it's an eyesore," Unger said.
His apartment features a view of Falls Park West but also as shed. He's excited about the news it could be going away in the next few years.
"We kind of wondered, ever since we moved here, when is it going to happen because it's time for sure," Unger said.
The potential redevelopment adds to a long list of projects in the area right now and that has residents excited.
Even if that means putting up with some construction noise.
"Doesn't bother me because I know it's for the best. Coming up there will be more things available. It's part of the game," Unger said.
Carol Williams also lives downtown and has enjoyed the Falls all her life.
"It is gorgeous today. I love the water trickling down," Williams said.
She takes a short drive once a week to Falls Park to enjoy the scenery. Williams also hopes to see some new developments coming to the neighborhood.
"I think it sort of takes away the beauty of the Falls. This has brought a lot of people and that's going to bring even more people," Williams said.
We'll just have to wait and see where the discussion flows when it comes to the Sioux Steel location.
Williams says the Falls Park area was much different when she was a little girl. She's glad it's been cleaned up and it's coming back to life.
