Local Store Takes Advantage Of Cyber Monday

More people are expected to do their online holiday shopping Monday than any other day of the year. Thus, coining the term Cyber Monday.  And one local retail store is using its online store to its fullest potential.

"It's a big day, most definitely. This weekend was quite good too," Rug & Relic co-owner Tove Bormes said.

Bormes processes online orders in the back of the store before Rug & Relic in Sioux Falls even opens for business on Cyber Monday.  The store features rugs and other products from Turkey, as well as consignment art pieces. The number of online orders waiting for shipping Monday morning is up.

"It has been significant and I don't want to give you numbers, but it has been a really significant addition to our business," Bormes said.

Rug and Relic carries a lot of one-of-a-kind products so many shoppers looking for those unique gifts go online and can find it on the website.

Good Housekeeping magazine might be contributing to this year's sales. The magazine recently featured Rug and Relic's products in its November issue. The company's online presence is also securing news coverage in other parts of the country.

"We actually got a call from the LA Times last week that's going to do a feature story on us, I believe this week for our kilim bags," Bormes said.

Bormes believes only 10 percent of the population is looking for a truly unique gift at any given time so she and her husband will continue to utilize the web to reach customers all over the world.

Rug and Relic opened in Sioux Falls in 2004 and started its website in 2010.
