Hartford Gets Ready For First Hotel

Hartford, SD

The City of Hartford will be home to its first ever hotel early next year. Construction has begun on an AmericInn near exit 387.

With a new event center open for business, work is underway on a new hotel that will fit right in to what's becoming a bustling part of Hartford.

"It will be 47 rooms, three stories high and be a highly visible building right at the exit," Sandholm said.

Gary Sandholm with Hartford Area Development says the AmericInn should be ready by early next year and he expects it to be successful. It will be Hartford's first hotel and the idea is coming to fruition after ten years of talk.

"We've got good traffic on Interstate 90. There are a lot of people that are traveling east and west that might want to stay in the Sioux Falls but don't want to have to get into the city," Sandholm said.

The hotel is just a part of new development in the area. On top of the Fireside Event Center and a new gas station, apartments are going up and businesses are moving in.

"About a quarter of a mile west along I-90, Costello companies are developing about 27 acres into a light industrial park," Sandholm said.

A busy time in Hartford for a community starting to grow.

Sandholm is looking forward to the jobs the new AmericInn will create as well as new tax revenue it will generate.
