Sioux Falls, SD
Fundraising is underway for a piece of art supporters want to become a signature part of downtown Sioux Falls. The "Arc Of Dreams" will span across the Big Sioux between 6th and 8th streets and should be ready by spring of 2016.
With the downtown riverfront as a backdrop, the group behind the Sculpture Walk unveiled the "Arc Of Dreams". It's being called the "People's Sculpture" that will be built by South Dakota's own Dale Lamphere and paid for through donations.
"We're all in this dream together to make this happen," Jim Clark with the SculptureWalk said.
The arc will become the signature work of art for the SculptureWalk and is expected to last for generations. Anyone who donates to the project will be recognized with either plaques, pavers or on a website.
"This sculpture is to pay tribute to those who have dreamt and created great things in this community and those that will. We want to inspire them so that they can come down here and say that's why I want to do what I want to do," Paul Schiller said.
Organizers hope the "Arc Of Dreams" will bring national attention and more tourists to the SculptureWalk. Lamphere is excited to see how visitors respond to the piece when it arrives in spring of 2016.
"The gap or synapse in the center means that we're creating not an arch but more of an arc, two arcs, that reach out towards one another. You can imagine along with that leap of faith that the center is filled with the hopes and dreams of individuals in the collective community," Lamphere said.
