First DTSF Incubator Store Open For Business

Sioux Falls, SD

605 Running Co., 124 S. Phillips Avenue, just opened its doors on Friday. It's a big grand opening for the store, but also for Downtown Sioux Falls. This is the first store in its downtown retail incubator program.

In the incubator program these stores agree to a three-year lease, get a break in rent for the first couple of months, and receive a mentorship from another successful store in downtown Sioux Falls.

"We're really excited," owner Paul Watley said. "This is something we've wanted to do for a long time and everything lined up, just having the incubator program and just getting this space and being able to do all the renovations in here so quickly. It's been a whirlwind but we're really excited to be open."

The program is designed to help theses retail stores succeed, especially by teaming them up with another successful business. The mentor for 605 Running Co. is The Great Outdoors Store.

"None of us really had any experience of running a business so the rent money is great," store manager Wayne Earney said. "But I think the biggest asset is getting teamed up with the store that has been around for 20 years, the great outdoors store,"

605 Running Co. hopes the new program helps run them into the future.

"To be a part of that is going to be awesome, getting people down here and keeping that downtown community feel, I think is going to be great," Earney said.

The incubator program is specifically designed to get retail business in downtown Sioux Falls. There is another incubator store that will open up soon; "A League Of Your Own" will sell licensed athletic gear.
