Feeding America Report Updates Need For Food In SD

Sioux Falls, SD

Nearly 200,000 people in South Dakota need help finding food.  That's about one in four people in the state.

A new report even surprised Feeding South Dakota.  The last report, in 2010, said 78,000 people relied on the organization.  The reason for the dramatic increase?  The need has grown and the new report was more in depth.  It went beyond food pantries and looked at other Feeding South Dakota programs.

To break down those numbers even further, 36 percent of people who receive help are children.  Eleven percent are elderly.  62 percent come from a household that makes less than $10,000 per year.

Review the report from Feeding America.
