Arnolds Park, IA
It's an unmistakable sound of summer. Arnolds Park Amusement Park entertains crowds by the hundreds every day. The people who make it all possible are the young employees who work hard to make sure each visitor has a great experience.
"It's really different from a lot of other places around even close to us. The closest place you can get to an amusement park besides us is Minneapolis with Valleyfair or Des Moines with Adventureland," operations manager Dalton Nelson said.
For some northwest Iowa teens, this is their first time earning a paycheck. This is Josh Kujanson's third summer working at the park.
"I came here all the time as a little kid and I was just looking for a first job and I found it and I liked it so I just kept on coming back," Kujanson said.
Alex Dalziel was looking for a job two years ago when his family moved to the area. He knew this was the right job for him right away.
"That is nice having people my age. There's a lot of people older than me in their 20's, but there's also a few teenagers here and we get a lot of younger people in the park," Dalziel said.
Having a job at an amusement park is certainly a unique experience, one that's exciting and fulfilling for the people who take the job.
"It's a great experience to work here. You get to deal with a lot of different people, interact with different people from all over the country," Nelson said.
For Dalziel, he uses the job as a way to improve on the skills he'll need later in life.
"I've never been good at working with people, but I've gotten a lot better since I've worked here, so you can improve on your people skills a lot and communicating," Dalziel said.
Kujanson can't imagine finding a more positive place to work.
"I enjoy the people and actually I really enjoy my bosses. They're really good to me," Kujanson said.
With all the different departments inside the park, there are many different on-the-job skills people can learn while they're there. If you'd like to learn more, visit the Arnolds Park Amusement Park website.
