Drivers React To Rising Gas Prices

Sioux Falls, SD

Drivers have felt the pain at the pump over the last month. That's because in South Dakota, gas has risen nearly 50 cents in 30 days. This impacts everyone, but it can be especially hard on those who are behind the wheel even when they're at work.

“It takes a little bite out of the budget.  I mean they still aren't as high as they have been, but I’m a realtor and I drive a lot so it is noticeable,” realtor Dick Hahn said.

While Hahn says they aren't as bad as they could be that quick jump is a shock especially with as often as he fills up.

"I fill it about every five or six days," Hahn said.

Now when he goes to fill up his tank, he knows at some point he may need to make cuts in other places.

"It's an impact.  With my job, of course, I am out on the road and that's how I make my living and I need to drive so it's the cost of doing business and it's something you work with," Hahn said.

According to AAA South Dakota, gas prices won't be going down any time soon. They will continue to rise because of the price of crude oil. With that in mind, drivers like Hahn are getting prepared to go back to penny pinching.

"Not yet, but if they go up real high that could happen," Hahn said.

Driving is a way of life for Hahn and something that won't change anytime soon.  But he says he can still hope for change at the pump.  Until then, he knows it's not as bad as it has been.

"Well, they have gone up noticeably in the last month.  Not as much as they have in the past but they have gone up quite a bit," Hahn said.

In Sioux Falls on Monday, gas prices are varying from $3.55 to $3.79. The national average according to AAA South Dakota is $3.73.
