A major expansion of Cadillac Jack's Gaming Resort has cleared its first hurdle.
Deadwood's mayor says it could cause other hotel operators to "up their game."
Public infrastructure improvement work for the four-story, 108-room Tru Hotel by Hilton is expected to begin in January after the Deadwood City Commission approved a $2 million financing plan. The new hotel is expected to open in May 2018.
Caleb Arceneaux is CEO of Liv Hospitality, which owns Cadillac Jack's. He tells the Rapid City Journal that the Deadwood expansion signifies his company's confidence in the former gold camp's future. He says it will cater to consumers' changing tastes.
Mayor Chuck Turbiville says the project is a notification to other proprietors that they need to become more competitive.
