Daugaard Announces Funding To Help Labor Shortage

Pierre, SD

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the state is taking tangible steps toward helping relieve the state's shortage of qualified workers like helping to fund community initiatives around the state.

Daugaard released his workforce summit report this week. The report lays out ways businesses, communities, educators and the state can get more skilled employees into South Dakota jobs.

The state faces a labor supply shortage in industries that require considerable training.

Secretary of Labor Marcia Hultman says local communities can create initiatives to help educate the workforce in their area. Those communities can request funding from state's Workforce Development Council.

The council will meet next in December to hear plans from local communities.
