Businesses Moving Into Shriver Square In Fall

sioux falls, sd

Big changes are happening downtown Sioux Falls, specifically on Phillips Avenue. That's where two long-time businesses are moving this fall.

For the last ten years, The Cookie Jar's satisfied many a sweet tooth on West 10th Street. But later this month, the bakery and restaurant is moving on up to the Shriver Square building.

Manager Greg Koch says the business has grown so large, the space at Shriver's Square is a perfect fit.

"We don't have enough seating," Koch said. "We're a family business and when you get my family working that closely together, it gets crazy."

Cliff Hangers Gallery is also making the move downtown next month, right across the street from the Phillips Avenue Diner.

"For the type of business I do, it's a perfect space," Kyle Weiss said.

For the last two decades, the fine art gallery's set up shop near 26th Street and Western Avenue. But after taking over for his grandpa, Weiss says moving downtown is a no-brainer.

"People are walking by, they're grabbing lunch, you can really feel the mood of downtown," Weiss said. "I love that about it and that's why I wanted to be a part of it."

Weiss says all the improvements downtown, specifically on Phillips Avenue, is what prompted him to make the move.

And at The Cookie Jar, Koch says he didn't think twice about staying in a central location.

"With the traffic and all of the promotions that go on down here, I couldn't imagine our business being anywhere else," Koch said.

Both stores plan to move in by October. And the Cookie Jar move is also good for the local economy, management says they plan to hire up to five additional employees
