sioux falls, sd
Seeing 90-degree temperatures in June isn't that uncommon.
Last year Sioux Falls, saw 90s for the first time June 6. We hit that more than two weeks earlier this year.
In between mid-May and now, fronts are dominating the weather. That accounts for the big spikes and dips in temperatures. Less than a week ago, we couldn't hit 50 in some spots. Flirting with 90 in such a short span after that makes it seem really abnormal, but consulting Storm Center data shows that it isn't. Normal highs in Pierre are 76 and we're planning to best that by 10 degrees.
The pattern swing helps make the calm forecast we've got for you the next few days. That blocking high holds back most organized rain chances, but there is enough surface action for isolated showers especially later in the week. That break is actually okay after the dousing rains we've picked up as of late.
The latest drought tracker still shows good conditions for most of KELOLAND. There is a weakening prolonged drought in north-central Iowa and only abnormally dry climate in far western South Dakota.
