Strong Storms Moving Through SE South Dakota, SW MN, NW Iowa

Sioux Falls, SD

A severe storm system carried heavy rain, winds of up to 80 miles an hour and hail as large as a half dollar as it moved through the area.

Heavy winds have caused some damage in Sioux Falls. Street flooding near the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls is creating problems for motorists in that area and high winds blew a truck off Interstate 90 in the Luverne, MN area.

Flash flooding was reported in many areas of Sioux Falls. Wind gusts of up to 80 miles an hour were reported near the airport in Sioux Falls. Heavy rain moved into the city of Sioux Falls shortly after 2:30 this afternoon.

According to some reports the hail that fell in the Sioux Falls area was up to a half-dollar in size. 

Multiple tornado warnings were issued for southeastern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa as the storms moved East. There are no reports of serious damage at this time.

The heaviest rainfall reports are in Southwestern Minnesota. The system brought up to two additional inches of rain to many areas already soaked by weekend rains. The ground is saturated in many areas and flash flood warnings have been issued for many parts of eastern KELOLAND.
