We are looking at another very hot day in KELOLAND. 100s are likely in the north and central, with very high humidity in the southeast. Notice FutureScan develops late day storms in the Aberdeen area. That's likely if we top the century mark.
Another big story is the fire danger West River. We are tracking the fire near Wanblee and the smoke plume near Kadoka. Southwest winds are forecast today, with a shift to the north by this evening.
Severe weather this evening is possible in the northeast. Large hail and damaging winds are possible.
There remains some question about how many of these storms actually reach Sioux Falls late tonight. We have a 30% chance of rain going right now, but there's actually a better chance that storms develop after midnight in the far west. While drought conditions will impact the amount of rain, there could be some good downpours around late tonight.
Tomorrow, we'll watch the morning complex of thunderstorm in northcentral SD. It could veer to the southeast and grow in strength in the afternoon as it runs into more humidity. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the southeast for the highest chance for severe weather on Tuesday. Heavy rain is quite possible too with some of the storms.
Another round of storms could fire on Wednesday afternoon. In fact, more storm development could be on radar late Friday. We don't have specifics on these events just yet, so stay tuned to the forecast. Some will get some good rain this week, but the best odds are still East River.
