Schools and offices are closed across South Dakota as central and eastern parts of the state are gripped by blizzard conditions.
Interstate 90 was closed from Murdo to Mitchell because of white-out conditions. No travel advisories have been issued for highways from the southeast corner of South Dakota along the Missouri River to the North Dakota border
. Portions of U.S. Highways 12, 14, 18 and 212 are included in the advisories.
On Twitter, the South Dakota Highway Patrol asked the public to avoid driving as wind gusts reached 50 miles per hour.
