Sioux Falls, SD
While some will see snow on Wednesday, it's the end to Scot Mundt's winter prediction. While he started okay, it ended in disaster.
As we begin May, it's time to put the 2012-2013 snowfall prediction to rest. For much of the snow season, Scot Mundt did ok, that is until April came.
April hit us hard, bringing record setting snow amounts for some along with a major ice storm in the southeast.
Scot was closet in the Hills with the Lead and Deadwood areas receiving just less than 187 inches. That's 93 percent of the prediction.
Sioux Falls is ending April ten inches higher than predicted or 134 percent.
From there the numbers get worse, Scot under-predicted Aberdeen by 180 percent and Rapid City by 193 percent.
Scot predicted 21 inches and they ended up with 55 in Pierre.
April was a heavy month for snow. It accounted for one-third to more than one-half of the total predicted snow. In April alone, Pierre was just six-tenths of an inch away from my prediction for the whole season.
While snow will fly for some in May, the prediction runs from October to April. Now it's time to study up for next year's prediction.
